Robert Musil Literaturmuseum

The Robert Musil Museum is a modern center for literature

The “Robert Musil Literature Museum” is located in the Klagenfurt birthplace of the world-famous Austrian poet and classic of modern Robert Musil (1880-1942). The house, which was built in 1867, is owned by the state capital of Klagenfurt and was expanded in 1996 and 1997 to become a modern center for literature in order to adapt new rooms for the museum and for the Robert Musil Institute for Literary Research at the University of Klagenfurt. The literature museum, which has been run by the cultural department of the city of Klagenfurt since 1994, now shows permanent exhibitions on Robert Musil, Christine Lavant and Ingeborg Bachmann. The concept for the exhibitions came from Heimo Strempfl, the exhibition design was designed by architect Franz Freytag (Klagenfurt). The internationally renowned French street artist Jef Aérosol has made the Musil Museum into an unmistakable “landmark” with the portraits of Christine Lavant, Ingeborg Bachmann and Robert Musil that he sprayed onto the portal.
