Strandbad Rauschelesee

Lake Rauschelesee, part of which is located in a conservation area, is a very popular place for anglers

Go fishing to your heart's content

If you haven't heard of me, my name is Marie and I will tell you what you should experience at the Wörthersee.

I was allowed to accompany a 4 lakes valley fisherman for a whole day, and I learned a lot about this peaceful sport. Ultimately there's a lot more to fishing than just casting your line and waiting.

Our basic equipment consisted of a fishing line, some bait, a reel and a hook. And of course a valid angling permit, which is available from the visitor information office.

Your advantage with the Wörthersee PLUS Card

If you stay 3 or more nights, Wörthersee PLUS Card holders get one free entrance to one of the participating bathing beaches. Additonal services, such as the rental of sunbeds or umbrellas, are not included in the free entrance and will be charged.

And because angling is not permitted from the public swimming area at Rauschelesee lido, we did it from a rubber dinghy – early in the morning, of course, because that is when the fish are supposedly hungriest.

While we were waiting for a fish to bite, I got some more information from the fishing pro. Did you know, for example, that more carp are caught than any other fish?

Also you are only permitted to remove a maximum of two fish, and the buoys mark out the area that is closed to fishing.

All in all, my day was extremely instructive – although I did not manage to catch any fish, perhaps because I was a bit too noisy. Maybe you will be more successful? I still need a bit of practice, and of course time and patience too!
